WEST POINT, N.Y - The Black Knight women's rugby team fought to the finish Saturday at the Anderson Rugby Complex, but dropped a thriller in the final moments to Life University, 19-18.
Army (2-2) and Life had a physical affair from start to finish, with both teams having multiple tries, and even more chances.
Sam Sullivan scored in the 11th minute to open the scoring for the Black Knights. Mackenzie Borchers made it 8-0 Army after a penalty kick in the 24th minute. Life would score in the 29th minute to make it 8-7 at the half.
Gio Ferguson-Lewis would extend the Cadets lead with a try in the 58th minute to make it 15-7. Life kept rallying, bringing it back to a one point game after a Jesah Haun try in the 67th minute to make it 15-14.
Army would get a little cushion with another Borchers penalty kick to make it 18-14 in the 73rd minute. Army faced high pressure from Life in the final minutes, with the Running Eagles breaking through with a try in the 80th minute.
