Cassalia Collects Third Straight PL Weekly Honor
September 24, 2018 | Women's Soccer
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Sophomore Sydney Cassalia of the Army West Point women's soccer team collected her third consecutive Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week award on Monday.
Cassalia becomes the first player since Bucknell's Jessica Ratner to be named goalkeeper of the week three times in a row in 2016 and the first Cadet to do so since Alex Lostetter in 2008. It was the fifth weekly honor of her career.
The Omaha, Neb., native led Army to a 1-0-1 week, allowing just one goal on 10 shots in 200 minutes of play. Cassalia saw her scoreless streak of 495:17 come to an end in the 48th minute against Marist, marking Army's longest scoreless streak since 2008 when Alex Lostetter did not allow a goal in 814:04.
Additionally, Cassalia recorded her seventh shutout of the season against Colgate on Saturday, the most by a Cadet in a single season since Monica Lee's program-record 15 clean sheets in 2011. Her career total was bumped up to 13 which is one shy of tying Annah Castellini for fifth all-time.
Cassalia continues to be one of the top goalkeepers in the nation, ranking tied for third in shutouts (7), fourth in save percentage (0.924), eighth in minutes played (1090:00), 14th in goals-against average (0.413) and tied for 15th in total saves (61).
The Black Knights resume Patriot League play with a midweek tilt against Lafayette on Wednesday. Kickoff from Malek Stadium at Clinton Field is slated for 7 p.m.
