Witham, Cassalia Earn League Honors

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's soccer team picked up a pair of weekly honors as senior Sydney Witham and sophomore Sydney Cassalia were recognized by the Patriot League for their performances.
Witham earned her second career weekly honor from the league as she was named the midfielder of the week, while Cassalia garnered her fourth weekly mention with her second straight goalkeeper of the week nod.
Witham's first-career goal snapped the team's 485:58 scoreless drought when she bent in a free kick from 20-yards out. The Crown Point, Ind., native recorded the fifth point of her career and led Army to its first Patriot League-opening win since 2014.
On the other end of the field, Cassalia continues to be a force for the Black Knights in goal as she recorded her fourth consecutive shutout. The Omaha, Neb., native made seven saves as she extended her scoreless streak to 447:37, the longest such streak for an Army goalkeeper since Monica Lee in 2011. It was her sixth clean sheet of the season, tying her total from 2017, and puts her two away from matching Annah Castellini's total of 14 shutouts for fifth all-time. Cassalia has been one of the top goalkeepers in the Patriot League throughout 2018, leading the league in goals-against average (0.40), save percentage (0.929), saves (52) and shutouts (6).
The Black Knights conclude their non-league slate with a midweek test at Marist on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
