THE OPENING KICKOFF
• Army is looking to extend its home winning streak to nine games when the Rainbow Warriors make a visit Saturday afternoon.
• The Black Knights are coming off a 38-14 win over Liberty to move to 1-1 on the season. That victory also marked Army's third consecutive home-opening win.Â
• The running game got back on track for the Cadets when they ran for 449 yards against the Flames after gaining only 168 against Duke in their opener.Â
• Hawai'i native Calen Holt has been the Black Knights' leading rusher with 126 rushing yards through two games. He also scored Army's first touchdown against Liberty.Â
• Darnell Woolfolk returned to form last Saturday with two touchdown runs and 98 yards on the ground.Â
• The defense came up with three turnovers in that game as well, two caused by safety Jaylon McClinton, to stymie the Flames' offense that came into Michie after putting up 52 points against Old Dominion.
• After leading the nation in rushing just a year ago, the Black Knights are back in the Top-10 in that category after averaging 308.5 yards (8th nationally) over their last two games.Â
ARMY-HAWAI'I HISTORY
• This will be the fourth all-time meeting between Army and Hawai'i.
• The Rainbow Warriors own a 3-0 record over the Black Knights, including a 49-42 victory in the teams' last outing on Oct. 26, 2013.
• These two teams have two common opponents in Navy and San Jose State. The Rainbow Warriors defeated the Mids, 59-41, in a high-scoring affair back on Sept. 1. Hawai'i is set to face off with San Jose State on Sept. 29. Army will meet San Jose State on Oct. 13 prior to taking on service-academy rival Navy in America's Game on Dec. 8.Â
ABOUT THE RAINBOW WARRIORS
• Hawai'i makes the trek east after an impressive start to the season with three wins in its first three games.Â
• This is the Rainbow Warriors' second game this season against a service academy after defeating Navy, 59-41, on Sept. 1 at home.Â
• Cole McDonald makes the offense go with 1,165 passing yards and 13 touchdowns through the air already this season. He is also second on the team in rushing with 125 yards.Â
• John Ursua is the top receiver with 423 yards on 26 catches for a 16.3 yards per catch average. He is also tied with teammate Cedric Byrd with five touchdown receptions.Â
• The defense is led by linebacker Solomon Matautia with 31 total tackles, while Manly Williams and Kaimana Padello have five sacks each for the most on the team.Â
• McDonald's passing yards and Ursua's receiving yards lead the nation. Byrd's 319 receiving yards aren't far behind as that mark places him sixth in the country.Â
RUSHING ATTACK
• In 2017, the Black Knights led FBS in rushing for the first time since 2012 as Army ran for 362.3 yards per game.Â
• Army returned most of the rushing attack from last season, but the biggest piece, Ahmad Bradshaw graduated from the Academy in August.Â
• Bradshaw set the single-season rushing record last year with 1,746 yards, including 265 yards against service-academy rival Air Force in the 21-0 victory last November.
• Army does however return its entire fullback core with Darnell Woolfolk and Andy Davidson leading the way. Woolfolk was second on the team in rushing in 2017 and had 14 rushing touchdowns, while Davidson was the team leader in touchdowns in 2016 with 12.
• The Black Knights will also rely on junior Connor Slomka and senior Calen Holt, who rushed for 216 and 214 yards just a year ago, respectively.
• In Army's opening two games of 2018 Holt is the man in charge, rushing for a team-best 126 yards on 13 carries. Woolfolk follows closely with 118 yards on 24 attempts.
RESPECT THE ARM
• While the Black Knights are known for running the triple option, they also have another tool in their back pocket -- Kelvin Hopkins Jr. The junior stepped in to fill the role of Army's quarterback after Ahmad Bradshaw graduated from the Academy.Â
• The Charlotte, N.C., native currently sits third on the team in rushing but was impresses many is his ability to throw the ball.
• So far this season Hopkins has gone 12-of-28 with two passing touchdowns in two games.
• He is eight completions shy of matching Army's total from a year ago (20).
