Men's Cross Country Receiving National Votes
August 28, 2018 | Men's Cross Country
West Point, N.Y. - As the Army West Point men's cross country team prepares to open its season at the University of Maine on Friday, the team finds itself in the national conversation.
The defending Patriot League champions will open the year ranked 38th in the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association National Preseason Poll. This marks the first time that Army has received votes in the national poll since 2000.
Head Coach Mike Smith welcomes back several key members to the team including senior Mikey Singer, juniors Robbie Santoyo, Roman Ollar and Ben Petrella and sophomore Daniel Mazzei. The group will be an important part to the team's success following the graduation of NCAA individual qualifier John Valeri.
They will look to build off a successful 2017 campaign that resulted in Patriot League and Star Meet championships as well as a third place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regional, the team's best finish since 2001.
The season begins on Friday at the Maine Dual in Orono, Maine.
