HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a back-and-forth start to the game as there were six lead changes in the opening frame. With Army turning the ball over eight times, Navy generated five more shots than the Black Knights, but only managed to make six shots on 17 attempts from the field. All but two points from the Midshipmen came from down low.
- Navy went on an 8-0 run with 5:35 to go in the quarter. However, Army responded with five unanswered points, which included a 3-pointer at the buzzer, to go ahead 14-2.
- In the second quarter, the Black Knights struggled offensively, shooting 18 percent from the field. With 6:31 left in the half, the Midshipmen went on an 11-4 run that lasted over five minutes. The Navy lead was three, 23-20, when Hovren converted on a timely three-point play to even things up. The Midshipmen would get the last laugh of the half though after making a shot at the buzzer to take a 25-23 lead into the break.
- Army got 20 shots up in the third quarter, compared to Navy's 10, but it was the Midshipmen who led by eight, 39-31, after finishing the frame on a 9-2 run.
- Despite Hovren and McNeal combining for 13 of Army's 15 fourth-quarter points, the Black Knights were only able to pull as close as eight, 52-44, before Navy closed it out and captured the 55-46 win.
- Army will trek to Worcester, Mass., on Wednesday night for a Patriot League tilt slated for 7 p.m. against Holy Cross.
