Black Knights Drop Contest to Yale

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point women's basketball team had three players in double figures, but Yale came out on top with a 62-51 victory at Christl Arena on Tuesday night.
Jess Lewis led all Army scorers with a season high 18 points, dished out five assists and added a steal. Madison Hovren chipped in with another double-double with 15 points and 17 rebounds, while also recording three steals. Morgann Yancey finished with 14 points and was 4-of-10 from distance.
The Bulldogs got a double-double from rookie Camilla Emsbo with 14 points and 14 rebounds. She also added two steals and two blocks. Roxy Barahman, who entered the game averaging 20 points per game, scored 19 and posted four assists and three steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER
- The lid was on the basket for the first six minutes of play for both teams as they were a combined 2-for-20 and Yale led 4-0.
- Army got back in the game with a pair of threes by Lewis, but Barahman put Yale up 14-8 after one quarter with six points as well.
SECOND QUARTER
- Yale added to its lead in the first part of the second quarter, but Army answered with a 12-2 run, highlighted by six points from Hovren and Yancey hitting a three.
- Lewis ended the run with her third three of the half and tied the game at 20-20.
- The Bulldogs, however, ended the half with a 9-1 run and took a 29-21 lead into the locker room.
THIRD QUARTER
- Hovren got Army within six early in the second half with a couple of free throws in the first minute, but Yale's Tori Andrew answered with a three to make it 32-23 with nine minutes on the clock.
- Yancey dropped her second three of the night with 8:35 on the clock and Army cut the lead to 32-26.
- The Black Knights traded buckets for most of the frame and couldn't get the Yale advantage below six points and went into the fourth down 10 at 44-34.
- Hovren had five points in the period and Lewis had four.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Army started off the fourth quarter with a 7-2 run to cut the lead down to 46-41 with 7:23 left thanks to Lewis' five points and a layup by Hovren.
- The Bulldogs jabbed back with an 8-2 run and earned their largest lead at 54-43. Andrews had four points and Baranham hit a 3-pointer with 4:20 on the clock.
- Yancey drained back-to-back shots from distance to cut it to seven at 56-49, but Yale closed out the game for the 62-51 victory.
UP NEXT
- The Black Knights have a long break over the holidays and will be back in action on Dec. 30 against Connecticut College.
