November 06, 2018 | Rifle
WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army West Point rifle head coach Web Wright has announced the addition of Rachel Martin as assistant rifle coach.
"Rachel is a great fit for this team," Wright said. "She is responsible, knowledgeable and her character is beyond reproach. She will make a great role model, mentor and motivator for this team."
Martin comes to West Point as one of most decorated shooters in the history of the University of Nebraska shooting program. During her time in Nebraska, Martin was a seven-time All-American. The 2015 Smallbore National Champion led the Huskers to the NCAA Championships in each of her four collegiate seasons, including top five finishes in 2014 (fifth) and 2015 (fourth). She holds the Nebraska school record for highest air rifle score by a sophomore (597), highest air rifle score by a junior (596) and highest overall air rifle score (597).
"Her NCAA record speaks for itself and she has proven she is a fierce competitor on the international circuit, as well," Wright said. "I really like the fact that she is coming in fresh from national and world level, elite competition. She has lots of new ideas that we can put to use to make this team even better than it is."
Prior to joining the Army staff, Martin spent a year as a resident athlete at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. She has represented the United States on seven World Cup teams. Â
A native of Peralta, N.M., Martin earned her bachelor's degree in Global and Religious Studies from the University of Nebraska in May of 2017
