Trio of Juniors Garner All-League Accolades
November 05, 2018 | Men's Soccer
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Zac McGraw, Keenan O'Shea and Tyler Mitchiner of the Army West Point men's soccer team all received All-Patriot League honors on Monday afternoon.
McGraw and O'Shea collected first team accolades, while Mitchiner earned third team recognition. It is the first time since 2014 that at least two Cadets were placed on the all-league first team.
"All three players have been tremendous throughout the season," head coach Russell Payne said. "The team is extremely happy for them. We see these individual awards as team awards and we are excited to continue our season."Â
For the third straight year, McGraw was a first team recipient as the junior defender appeared in 14 matches and captained the back line for the Black Knights. He handed out three helpers this season, including an assist on the game-winner versus Lafayette.
O'Shea broke out offensively during his junior campaign and led the Patriot League in goals (11) and points (26). A third team all-league player a season ago, O'Shea returned for his third year and was the only player in the league to reach the double-digit goal threshold this season. The Chesterfield, Va., native notched a pair of multi-goal contests and recorded at least one point in 12 of the 17 games he appeared in. His pair of goals in the regular season finale against American gave Army the win and sent the Black Knights into the Patriot League Tournament.
Mitchiner received his first all-league honors after tallying a goal and two assists in his third year on the Banks of the Hudson. His lone goal of the year was the game-winner against Lafayette. The Clearwater, Fla., native also dished out assists opposite Bucknell and Holy Cross. Â
Army will take on Boston U. in the quarterfinals of the Patriot League Tournament tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in Boston.
