Black Knights Fall to Air Force

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point women's basketball team continued its short homestead on Wednesday and fell to Air Force, 71-60, in a battle between service academies.
Madison Hovren led Army with her third double-double of the season with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Jessica Rawls and Alisa Fallon added career highs in points with nine apiece.
Briana Autrey was Air Force's go-to player with 24 points off the bench. She was 8-for-12 from the floor and hit eight free throws in the win. Riley Snyder had 15 points and eight rebounds for the Falcons as well, while Kaelin Immel had 14 points in the win.

- This was 19th all-time meeting between Army and Air Force and it is the third straight year the two service-academy rivals.
- The Falcons won at Army for the third time in the series.
- The Black Knights own an 11-8 record overall in the series.
- Rookie Kate Murray made her first collegiate start for the Black Knights.
- Hovren recorded her 36th career double-double and is one off of Erin Anthony for second all-time for Army.
- It was her 20th career game with at least 20 points and second time this season.
- Hovren had 11 points in the third quarter alone.
- Rawls' previous career high was four points before scoring nine tonight.
- Army was outscored in the paint, 40-28, and Air Force had 45 of their 71 points from players off the bench.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER
- Air Force jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but Army answered with a 9-0 run with two buckets by Hovren and a 3-pointer by Jess Lewis.
- The Falcons fired back with a 14-4 run to regain the lead at 15-13 with Snyder scoring in transition.
- The back-and-forth battle continued and Morgann Yancey put Army up 21-18 at the end of one with a 3-pointer from the wing.
SECOND QUARTER
- The Falcons came back and started the second with a 7-0 run to take a 25-21 lead in the first couple of minutes of the frame. Haley Jones had a big play during the run with an old fashioned three-point play.
- Army inched closer to the Falcons with Hovren hitting a lay up for two of her first half 14 points to get Army within one at 33-32 at the 1:48 mark.
- Immel then put Air Force back up by four with a 3-pointer, followed by an Emily Conroe lay in to give the Falcons a 38-32 advantage. Hovren added a free throw to make it 38-33 at the half.
THIRD QUARTER
- Army got to within three at 44-41 at the under five minute timeout with Hovren and Rawls scoring to cut the Air Force advantage down to three points.
- The Black Knights were able to tie the game at 48-48 with Hovren hitting another layup and then Rawls converting on a free throw with 1:49 left in the quarter.
- Fallon hit a jumper with 1:14 on the clock to give Army its first lead since early in the second quarter at 50-48. The Black Knights were able to hang onto the lead at the end of the third and went into the fourth with a 54-52 lead.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Army ended up struggling in the final 10 minutes and allowed Air Force to close the game on a 19-6 run to earn the 71-60 victory.
