Black Knights Topped by UMass Lowell

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Army West Point men's basketball team was defeated, 92-85, on the second day of the Brown Bears Tip-Off Classic at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Both the Black Knights (1-3) and River Hawks (2-3) were efficient from the field, connecting on over 50 percent of their shots. However, it was UMass Lowell pulling away in the second half after missing only nine of its 26 shots in the closing 20 minutes of action.
Matt Wilson was unstoppable inside the painted area for Army and came one point shy of tying his career-high with 23 points to pair with eight rebounds.
Tommy Funk had the Black Knights' second double-double of the season after he finished the contest with 15 points and a game-high 10 assists. Rookie Aaron Duhart reached double-figures in the scoring column as well, posting 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting.

- It was the second time this season that he made five or more shots without missing a single one.
- The junior led all Cadets in scoring for the third time this season.
- Army assisted on 54 percent of its made shots.
- Funk recorded five or more assists for the fifth straight contest.
- He recorded double-digit assists for the second time this year and fifth time in his career.
- The junior guard tallied his third collegiate double-double.
- He moved past teammate Jordan Fox for fifth in career assists with 361.
- Josh Caldwell tallied a career-best five steals.
- That was the most steals by a Cadet since Tanner Plomb had five against Holy Cross on Jan. 14, 2015.
- Duhart's 14 points was a career high.
- The Cadets shot 56 percent from the field.
- Army had its best shooting night as a team since making 59 percent of its shots against Lehigh on Jan. 20, 2018.
- The Black Knights scored 68 percent of its points inside the paint.
- Army scored 19 points off of 14 UMass Lowell turnovers.

- For the second straight day it was Army jumping out to an early advantage as the Cadets went 4-for-6 from the field to grab an 11-4 lead. UMass Lowell used a 10-3 run to get back into the game and from that point forward, the two sides began to trade baskets and the River Hawks led 44-42 at the half.
- Army and UMass Lowell combined to make 11 shots from beyond-the-arc in the half and shoot over 57 percent from the field. Wilson had 16 points on 8-of-8 shooting at the break, while Christian Luetete led the River Hawks with 12 points and four made 3-pointers.
- UMass Lowell opened the second half on a 7-2 run and began to extend its lead. The advantage for the River Hawks grew as large as 11 with 8:30 left to play, but Army turned to Caldwell and he put up five straight points to spark a 12-4 run.
- In the end, UMass Lowell was able to ward off the Cadets' attack by going 8-for-8 from the field as a team during the final seven minutes of play.
