Game Notes: Black Knights Host Air Force

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Black Knights welcome service-academy rival Air Force on Saturday for the teams' 53rd all-time meeting.
Saturday's game is slated for noon and has Commander In Chief Trophy implications. If Air Force wins, the Falcons will claim the trophy outright after defeating Navy earlier this season. If the Cadets win, they will retain the trophy from last season and will have a chance to win it outright when they play Navy on Dec. 8.

THE OPENING KICKOFF
• The Black Knights most recently registered their fourth-straight victory after defeating Eastern Michigan 37-22 last Saturday.
• That win made Army bowl eligible for the third consecutive year, marking the third time in program history that has occurred.
• Since the start of the 2017 season, the Cadets have won 16 of their last 21 games for a .762 winning percentage and are 16-3 over the last two seasons when kicking off prior to 7 p.m. Eastern with a 6-0 mark in 2018.
• The Black Knights will look to keep their home winning streak alive as well when they host Air Force this weekend. Army's current streak sits at 10 straight with its last home loss coming to the Falcons on Nov. 5, 2016 (L, 31-12).
• Over the last seven contests, the Black Knights' running game has averaged 335.6 rushing yards and has scored 26 of their 31 offensive touchdowns during that time via the ground game.
• After leading the nation in rushing just a year ago, the Black Knights are back in the Top-5 in that category after averaging 314.6 yards (second nationally) over their last eight contests.
• Kelvin Hopkins Jr. and Darnell Woolfolk are leading the team with 596 and 548 yards rushing, respectively. Woolfolk its tops on the team with eight scores, while Hopkins Jr. has picked up seven TDs via the run.
• During its last outing, Army saw senior Jordan Asberry rush for his sixth career touchdown and tally his fifth career receiving score.
• The Black Knights' defense has been stellar in stopping the run game. So far this season, Army has held four opponents to under 100 yards rushing, including its last three opponents. (San Jose State, Miami (OH), and Eastern Michigan).
• The Army defense has also been one of the nation's best when it comes to defending on third down situations. The Cadets are currently seventh in the nation in that category, allowing only 21 conversions in 78 attempts (.269 percent).
• In the last three years the Black Knights are undefeated (12-0) when they don't lose the football. Over Coach Jeff Monken's tenure (five years), Army is 13-4 in that situation.
ARMY-AIR FORCE HISTORY
• This will be the 53rd all-time meeting between these two academy rivals.
• The Falcons currently leads the series 36-15-1, but the Black Knights won the teams' last meeting just a year ago 21-0.
• In that contest the Cadets shut out the Falcons for the first time in program history. It was also the first time Air Force was blanked since 1992 and shut out at home since 1980.
• The Black Knights controlled much of the game and limited the Falcons to a season-low 190 total yards.
• Then senior quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw rush for an impressive 265 yards, which broke Army's all-time QB single-game rushing record.
• James Nachtigal and Cole Christiansen led the defense with 10 tackles each.
• The Black Knights and Falcons have one common opponent during the 2018 season in Navy. Air Force took down the Mids 35-7 on Oct. 6, while the Army-Navy Game, presented by USAA is slated for Dec. 8 at 3 p.m.
ABOUT THE FALCONS
• Air Force sits with an overall record of 3-5 with wins over Stony Brook, Navy and UNLV.
• Most recently the Falcons dropped a 48-38 hard-fought loss to Boise State, which dipped their Mountain West mark to 1-4.
• Air Force is averaging 31.6 points per game to just 26.8 points for its opponents.
• The Falcons are ranked eighth nationally in the run game with 255.5 rushing yards per game.
• Three athletes are averaging over 300 yards rushing with Cole Fagan leading the charge with 486 yards racked up. Isaiah Sanders and Kadin Remsberg follow closely behind with 445 and 309 yards, respectively.
• Sanders has also become the Falcons main play caller. The junior is 43-of-71 for 767 yards and four touchdowns.
• His main targets have been Marcus Bennett and Rona Cleveland. Bennett has registered 302 receiving yards and two scores, while Cleveland has accumulated 241 yards and two touchdowns.
• In Air Force's game against Boise State, Sanders rushed for a team-best 97 yards while throwing for an impressive 210 yards, including a 51-yard connection to Joseph Saucier.
• On the defensive side of the ball during that contest was Jeremy Fejedelem who compiled a team-best 13 tackles, including six solo shots.
• The junior is also tops on the team with 77 total tackles on the year. He is followed closely by Brody Bagnall's mark of 58. Jordan Jackson has been helping the Falcons' defense as well posting 9.5 tackles for a loss of 46 yards.
