Army, RMC Renew Rivalry in Ontario
January 18, 2018 | Hockey
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Riding a 10-game unbeaten and six-game winning streak in the series, the Army West Point hockey team will renew its longtime rivalry with the Royal Military College of Canada Saturday in Kingston, Ontario. The contest marks the 82nd meeting between the two teams, which began in 1923, and is slated to begin at 7:35 p.m. at the K-Rocke Centre.
Â
Talks of the series started in 1921, however, when Superintendent Brig. Gen. Douglass MacArthur wrote a letter to Maj. Gen. Sir Archibald MacDonnell, commandant of the Royal Military College, to suggest that the two military schools play. The second meeting of the two military academies marked the first time that Army did not play a home game of hockey. It was not until 1941 that the Black Knights would travel to face their competition, except of course for the Paladins year in and year out.
