Brewer Fires 587 Air Rifle at NCAA Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophomore Nathan Brewer of the Army West Point rifle team competed in the air rifle discipline at the NCAA Championships Saturday and placed 29th with a 587 at the French Field House on the campus of Ohio State.
It is the second straight year that Brewer earned a bid to the NCAAs having competed individually last year in smallbore.

AIR RIFLE AT NCAAs
- In the final standings, Brewer's 587 tied with three others for 29th place among 44 competitors, but he won the tie breaker with 41 center shots in edging Alaska Fairbanks' Luke Johnson's 40 centers for that spot.
- Brewer was one of four shooters competing in relay two won by Maddalena Sagem (who went on to place 10th) of Alaska Fairbanks with a 594.
- Milica Babic of West Virginia turned in the top relay score of 598 in air rifle, then claimed the individual title with a 208.1.
- West Virginia won air rifle with a 2387 to claim the team championship with a 4723.
HEAD COACH WEB WRIGHT'S COMMENTS
- "Nathan shot pretty well today. I think we both know he has more in him, score wise, but he had a solid performance.
- I know the team was rooting for him as I received several texts from his teammates.
- This was a good year for the team. We have some work to do to get ready for next season, but we are steadily moving the program forward."
