Army Falls to Navy in Last Second Heartbreaker

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Navy's Sarita Condie hit a fade away three-pointer with less than a second on the clock to give Navy a 54-53 victory over Army in the Patriot League semifinals at Bucknell on Friday night.
Army (22-9) got double-doubles from Aliyah Murray and Madison Hovren in the loss. Murray played all but two minutes in the game and finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds, while Hovren tallied 11 points and 10 boards.
Destinee Morris hit a short jumper in the lane to give Army a two-point lead at 53-51 with a minute left. Navy ended up getting three opportunities on the next possession and Condie hit her fifth three-pointer of the night to give the Mids the victory. Morris finished with 11 points on the night.
Navy (23-8) moves on to play Bucknell in the Patriot League Championship game on Sunday thanks to Condie's 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting. She led a Mids contingent that shot 9-of-18 from beyond the arc. Hannah Fenske was the only other Mid in double figures, while Kaila Clark pulled down 11 rebounds and added eight points.

- Navy owns a 4-2 record against Army in the postseason.
- The Army-Navy rivalry was played at a neutral site for the sixth time as well.
- Army made its fourth-straight trip to the conference semifinals.
- The Black Knights had at least two players with double doubles for the first time since the Feb. 8 game against Colgate.
- Murray added her eighth double-double of the year and ninth of her career.
- Hovren recorded her 16th double-double of the year.
- With Hovren's 10 rebounds she is the all-time sophomore rebounding leader with 316 on the year as she passed Pam Pearson '86.
- Daizjah Morris started all 30 games this season for the Black Knights. The only player to do so.
TURNING POINT
- The Black Knights allowed Navy to get three offensive rebounds in the final minute of the game and Condie hit the fade away shot to win the game for the Mids.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mids jumped out to a 7-0 lead early on and built the lead up to 20-8, by making a trio of three-pointers, but Army chipped away with Murray and Hovren adding layups.
- The Black Knights ended the first on a 5-0 run and it was 20-13 at the end of 10 minutes.
- Navy's Carita netted nine points in the first quarter, while Fenske was 2-of-2 from beyond the arc.
- The Black Knights got to within four early in the second frame after a Janae McNeal baseline jumper for two of her 11 points, but Navy took advantage of a miscue on an Army defensive rebound and stole the momentum right back with a 7-0 run and led 28-17 with 4:24 remaining in the quarter.
- Army slowly chipped away at the lead at the end of the first half with Libby Tacka hitting a layup with 1:25 left to make it a seven-point game, but Condie answered on the other end and Navy had a 35-26 lead at the half.
- The Mids kept their advantage to around 10 points for the first seven minutes of the third quarter, but Army started to chip away again.
- The Black Knights went on an 8-0 run to get to within three at 40-37 with the run being highlighted by Lena' Hicks' great post move for two and then she followed that up with a 15-foot jumper from the top of the key.
- Clark was able to find the goal with 20 seconds remaining in the quarter and Navy had a 42-37 lead going into the final quarter.
- The Mids increased their lead back up to seven points early in the frame, but Army responded with a jumper from Hicks and a corner three-pointer from Morris to cut the lead to two points at 46-44 with seven minutes remaining.
- Army took its first lead of the game at 49-48 with 2:59 left on the clock with another three by Morris, but Condie found an opening on the other end to grab it right back for Navy at 51-49 with 2:27 on the clock.
- After an Army timeout McNeal converted on a layup to tie it again at 51-51and then Morris dropped the jumper to give Army the 53-51 advantage prior to Condie's winning three-pointer.
