Terriers Spoil Senior Night for Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point women's basketball team came back from a halftime deficit, but couldn't overcome the Terriers late in the game as the Black Knights lost 66-62 on Senior Night at Christl Arena.
Army (21-8, 12-6 Patriot League) was led by Madison Hovren with 15 points, while Janae McNeal had the best all-around performance with 12 points, six rebounds and six steals. Destinee Morris came off the bench to score nine points and grab four boards. Daizjah Morris and Aliyah Murray added eight apiece in the loss.
Boston University (13-16, 11-7 Patriot League) adjusted well after hosting the Black Knights last week on its home court. Nia Irving and Kara Sheftic were big factors in the win with 12 points each, while Sara Hope had 11.
The Black Knights honored its two seniors Alex Elzinga and Dani Failor, along with managers Jose Quintero, Chris Walker and Bob Zhu prior to the game.

HIGHLIGHTS AND NOTES
- The Black Knights finished the regular season with 21 wins and enter the Patriot League tournament as the third seed.
- The win for the Terriers was the first over Army since the 1981-82 season and it was the first Patriot League victory for Boston University against the Black Knights.
- Daizjah Morris was the lone player to start all 29 games in the regular season this year. Hovren's streak came to an end at 28 games as she didn't start in tonight's game.
- It was Army's second loss of the season when leading with five minutes to go in the game.
- McNeal tied a career high with six steals with the last time coming on Nov. 23 against Air Force. It was a Patriot League best for the guard after five against Holy Cross in February of last season.
- Army starts the month of March, 0-1, after going through February with a 7-1 mark.
TURNING POINT
- Nia Irving caught a weak side pass from Sophie Beaudry and hit the layup while being fouled. She converted the three-point play to put the Terriers up 63-60 with 1:40 left. The Terriers would not relinquish the lead.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers got off to great start with the first 11 points of the opening quarter and shot 6-of-7 from the floor in the first moments.
- Army climbed back in the game thanks to a 9-0 run to get to within one at 15-14 with 1:34 left in the first.
- Hovren and Daizjah Morris led the way at the end of the first with five points each in the 17-17 game after 10 minutes. Army stepped up the defense with six steals in the first quarter, which allowed them to get easy points on the offensive end.
- It was another slow start for the Black Knights in the second quarter, allowing Boston University to go on a short 6-0 run to gain the lead back at 23-17 with 6:41 remaining.
- Towards the end of the quarter, Morgann Yancey hit a three-pointer and then Destinee Morris converted on an old-fashioned three-point play to cut into the Terriers' lead as Army went into the half down five at 33-28.
- Army came out ready to play in third quarter and got to within one with 6:23 remaining on free throws by Hovren. McNeal and Libby Tacka added layups early in the third and Hovren had a nice post move to give her two more points.
- The Black Knights gained their first advantage in the game at 45-43 with a floater in the lane by Hovren with 2:18 remaining in the third quarter. The Hovren score was part of a 7-0 run to give Army the lead.
- Army took a four-point lead early in the fourth quarter and was up 56-52 with six minutes to go after a Murray layup.
- The team's would punch and counter-punch for the next four-plus minutes and with the score tied at 60-60, Beaudry hit a cutting Irving on the weak side and she laid it up and was fouled for a three-point play and the Terriers went on top 63-60.
- Army had its opportunities thanks to a pair of steals by McNeal down the stretch, but Corrine Williams stepped in front of an Army pass with 19 seconds left and the Terriers sealed the win by hitting their free throws as Boston University took home a 66-62 win.
