February 06, 2017 | Women's Basketball
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Sophomore Madison Hovren was honored as Patriot League Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 25.0 points and 12.0 rebounds in a pair of Army wins last week.
In addition to her Patriot League Player of the Week selection, Hovren was named the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Division I Player of the Week.
The Patriot League Player of the Week recognition is the sixth this season for Hovren, and is also the sixth of her career, while the MBWA Division I Player of the Week honor is her third of the season and third of her career.
Hovren netted 22 points and pulled down nine rebounds in helping the Black Knights to a 63-55 win over Lafayette on Feb. 1. She shot 8-of-12 from the field versus the Leopards and added three steals on the defensive side.
The Spokane, Wash., native followed up her performance against Lafayette with game highs of 28 points and 15 rebounds in Army's 67-48 victory over Loyola on Feb. 4. Hovren shot 10-of-12 from the foul line in the game and contributed nine points and six rebounds in the third quarter alone to help the Cadets outscore the Greyhounds, 24-14, in the period.
Hovren leads the Patriot League with 19.7 points per game and 10.6 rebounds per game. Her six Patriot League Player of the Week honors this season are one shy of Kelsey Minato's (USMA '16) Patriot League single-season record of seven honors she earned in 2015-16.
Army (16-6 overall, 7-4 Patriot League) is at Christl Arena again on Wednesday, Feb. 8 to host Colgate for a 7 p.m. game.
