ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- This was the Black Knights' first deficit to the Golden Griffins in five meetings.
- Canisius outshot Army, 34-29, with Parker Gahagen leading with 30 saves.
- It was the 10th contest that Gahagen has made 30 or more saves.
- The Black Knights held a 29-27 advantage over the Griffs in faceoffs in the game.
- C.J. Reuschlein led both teams with seven shots and was followed by Zach Evancho who tallied four and Tyler Pham who recorded three. The seven was a season-high for Reuschlein.
- Tonight's shutout was the Cadets' first of the 2016-17 season, the last coming in the final game of the 2015-16 season against Robert Morris in the Atlantic Hockey Semifinals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game was very fast paced to start off with the puck going back-and-forth for the first half of the opening period.
- Evancho had a breakaway with six minutes to go in the first frame, but was slashed preventing him to get a shot off. This caused the first power play of the night.
- Just 28 seconds into the second stanza, the Griffins took a 1-0 lead with a redirected shot by Davi Parrottino which bounced past Gahagen.
- Canisius had a one vs. one breakaway with Gahagen, but the puck hit off the outside of the pipe to keep the score within one.
- With nine minutes remaining in the second, the Griffs made it 2-0 with a power play goal. The Black Knights were called for interference and Canisius came charging in at the net with the goal from Casey Jerry.
- Pham had a key opportunity to get the Black Knights on the board after being fed from behind, but it was saved by Charles Williams.
- Gahagen stood tall during another lone man breakaway by Canisius to make a key save.
- The Griffs took a 3-0 advantage at the 10:07 minute mark of the final frame, and baited a 5:00 penalty and game misconduct from the Cadets.
- Canisius clinched the shutout with an empty net goal with 2:39 to go.
TURNING POINT
- The Griffs turned the momentum in their favor when they scored 28 seconds into the second stanza.
