Women’s Basketball Slips to 67-62 Defeat at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Army women's basketball team trailed by three with 32 seconds left, but didn't get any closer during a 67-62 loss to Navy in the 2017 Star Game on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Hall.
Army's five-game winning streak comes to an end as the Black Knights fall to 19-7 overall and 10-5 in the Patriot League after the loss, while Navy moves to 20-7 and 13-2.
Junior Aliyah Murray posted her fifth double-double of the year with a career-high 20 points and 11 rebounds. Murray shot 10-of-16 from the floor and also matched a career best with five steals. Junior Destinee Morris also reached double figures with 14 points, and classmate Janae McNeal tallied nine points, eight boards and a career-high-tying seven assists.
Sophomore Madison Hovren finished with seven points and nine rebounds, while junior Lena' Hicks and freshman Libby Tacka each netted five points.
Sarita Condie led Navy with 21 points and Taylor Dunham added 17, including 13 points in the second half.

- Condie made a pair of three-pointers in the final 5:03 of the game, including one with 2:12 left to put Navy up five, 59-54. Army got back to three points down twice, but didn't get any closer the rest of the way.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Navy scored 11 of the game's first 15 points to take an 11-4 advantage with 6:17 remaining in the first quarter.
- The Mids used a 9-0 run to build their seven-point lead. The run was capped by a layup from Condie.
- Army cut its deficit back to two, 13-11, by the 1:30 mark, following a 7-2 run that was finished off by a jumper from Hicks.
- Navy hit a pair of three-pointers in the final 1:15 of the period to give the hosts a 19-11 lead after one.
- The Black Knights started the second quarter on a 12-3 run to included threes from Destinee Morris and Tacka, and gave the visitors at 23-22 lead with 5:48 left in the first half.
- Navy got the lead back, but Army scored the final four points of the half, with Murray making buckets with 1:47 left and 0:59 left, to give the Cadets a 31-30 lead at the break.
- The Mids built a three-point lead, 38-35, early in the third period before McNeal converted an old-fashioned three-point play to tie the score at 38 apiece with 5:14 to play in the frame.
- Both teams stayed close to even for the rest of the quarter. Navy hit 1-of-2 foul shots with three seconds left to knot the score at 46-46 heading into the fourth.
- Dunham scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to give Navy a five-point lead, 51-46, before Destinee Morris buried a three from the corner to bring Army back to within two, 51-49, 2:14 into the period.
- Condie hit a three-pointer with 5:03 left on the clock to extend Navy's lead to six, 56-50.
- McNeal and Murray each scored two points to get the deficit back to two, 56-54, by the 2:27 mark.
- Condie knocked in another triple with 2:12 on the clock to extend the Mids' advantage to five, 59-54.
- Destinee Morris drew a foul on a fast break and buried both free throws to get Army back to a three-point deficit, 63-60, with 32 seconds remaining.
- Navy made two of its next four free throws to move ahead to a five-point lead with 18.9 ticks to play and hung on for the win.
