November 06, 2017 | Men's Soccer
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Highlighted by Zac McGraw's Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year honors, the Army West Point men's soccer team earned five all-league team accolades on Monday afternoon.
The sophomore defender also found himself on the All-Patriot League First Team for the second time in his career, while Marcos Arroyo, Rex Epps and Justin Stoll all received second team honors. Keenan O'Shea rounded out the awards for the Black Knights with third-team recognition.
McGraw, who was tabbed the Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year prior to the start of the season, played a pivotal role in Army's defensive success during the 2017 campaign. His 6-4 stature caused issues for opposing teams all season long as Army led the Patriot League in fewest goals allowed (14) and limited the opponents to the fewest amount of shots (132). The Torrance, Calif., native also contributed on the offensive end by assisting on the Black Knights' game-winning score against Marist on Sept. 17.
Arroyo, who was a co-captain for the Black Knights in his senior season, started in all 17 games and logged the most minutes by any Cadet on the team. His impact on the field led him to his second all-league selection as he was third-team all-league member a season ago. The Oviedo, Fla., native assisted on the game-winning goals against Marist and Lafayette, while
also handing out a helper in a 2-1 win over Sacred Heart.
For the second consecutive year, Epps garnered all-league honors, as he received third-team recognition as a freshman. In 2017, the Irmo, S.C., native led Army in goals (8), points (20) and shots (61). The two-time Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week was a constant scoring threat on the pitch and ranked second in the league in goals, points and shots. His four assists was also tied for first on the team. He started off his sophomore campaign in thrilling fashion after he netted the game-winning goal over Pac-12 opponent, San Diego St. in overtime.
Stoll was a defensive stalwart in between the pipes for the Black Knights, posting a league-best eight shutouts. His eight shutouts in a single season are tied for fourth-most in school history. Compiling the third-most minutes by a Patriot League goalkeeper this year, Stoll led the league in goals-against average (.756), while also accumulating a .735 save percentage with 31 saves.
O'Shea provided another dangerous scoring option for Army, as the sophomore netted five scores. His five goals, 14 points and 52 shots ranked second on the team, while his four assists were tied with Epps for first. The Chesterfield, Va., native tallied a score and an assist in each of the wins over Stony Brook and Fairfield. He also scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 Patriot League road victory over Lafayette.
