Rifle Drops Match to Mountaineers
November 05, 2017 | Rifle
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The No. 16 Army West Point rifle team lost in a tough match to undefeated No.1 West Virginia, 4640-4733.
Coach's Quotes:
"We started off pretty strong in kneeling," said head coach Web Wright. "We were actually pretty even with WVU going into prone. Our prone was a little weak. Payne [Nunn] shot a perfect score, so that was a high point. I'm proud of Payne's smallbore performance. I think that's a personal record for him.
"We had a couple of other PRs today as well. Emiliano [Concha-Toro] and Matt [Lovre] shot personal best. It will be good for their confidence for the rest of the season.
"(West Virginia's) Ginny [Thrasher] shot a perfect score today in air rifle. That's a tremendous accomplishment. Milica [Babic] was right behind her with a 599. I hope seeing that has inspired our folks a little bit. It's possible and I know they can do it."
AGGREGATE (4640)
SMALLBORE (2301)
AIR RIFLE (2339)
UP NEXT:
Army will return to West Point to open its home slate on Nov. 10. The squad will host No. 11 Nevada and No.29 MIT in a tri-meet at Tronsure Marksmanship Center.
