WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point Athletics and head women's soccer coach Marcia McDermott mutually parted ways on Monday.
Â
"I'd like to thank Marcia for leading our women's soccer program and for her dedicated service to the U.S. Military Academy and our cadet-athletes," Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan said. "She has led this program with class and professionalism and has always maintained a strong focus on our cadet-athletes' development, both in the classroom and on the field. We wish her the very best moving forward."
Â
"I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to coach at the preeminent leader development institution in the world," McDermott said. "I was very lucky to work with such an extraordinary group of cadet-athletes, coaches and colleagues. I cannot thank the West Point community enough for their support of our program. I know the program has a bright future."
Â
McDermott led the Black Knights to two Patriot League Tournament appearances and mentored five All-Patriot League First Team performers on the pitch, along with six Academic All-Patriot League performers. She also coached two second team and four third team All-Patriot League players.
Â
A national search for the new head coach of women's soccer will begin immediately. COL Gretchen Nunez, Gretchen.Nunez@usma.edu, has been named Interim head coach until a head coach is named. Nunez (formerly Gretchen Meier) is a 1995 graduate of West Point and a four-year letterwinner for the Black Knights on the pitch and was named All-Patriot League First Team three times. She was added to the West Point Women's Soccer Silver Anniversary Team.Â
