Game Notes: Black Knights Travel to Air Force

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point football team is taking its four-game winning streak into rivalry territory on Saturday with a visit to Air Force.

THE OPENING KICKOFF
• Army's four-game winning streak is the longest for the Black Knights since 2005.
• Dating back to last season, Army is 9-2 in its last 11 games, and the last period with nine wins in a 11-game stretch came in 1996.
• Army has been able to grind out its last two games as they have been by a total of four points and the Black Knights are 3-1 this season in games decided by a touchdown or less.
• Air Force welcomes Army after evening its record at 4-4 with a 45-28 victory on the road at Colorado State.
• With the win over Temple in its last outing, Army clinched a bowl bid for the second straight year and will be headed to the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 23.
• The Black Knights are headed to back-to-back bowls for the first time since the 1984 and 1985 seasons when they went to the Cherry and Peach Bowl under head coach Jim Young.
• Army is looking for its first win at Air Force since 2005.
ARMY-AIR FORCE SERIES HISTORY
• This will be the 52nd meeting all-time between the two service academy rivals and the 25th clash at USAFA.
• Air Force leads the all-time series with a 36-14-1 advantage.
• The Falcons have won the last four games in the series, and head coach Troy Calhoun has enjoyed success against the Cadets with an 9-1 mark.
• The Falcons have a 21-3 edge when playing at home and have only lost to the Black Knights once since 1977.
ABOUT THE FALCONS
• Like Army, Air Force is riding a winning streak and it is at three games with wins over UNLV, Nevada and Colorado State.
• Prior to the winning streak, the Falcons had dropped four straight games.
• Air Force has an impressive offensive attack averaging 38.2 points per game, while the defense has been less than stellar with teams scoring 32 points per contest.
• Quarterback Arion Worthman is the machine that makes the offense work with 764 rushing yards and 830 yards through the air with a combined 22 touchdowns.
• The Falcons average 352.9 yards per game on the ground, but can also find points with the pass as they have scored nine touchdowns through the air.
• Marcus Bennett leads the way with 262 receiving yards for a 23.8 average per catch.
• On the defensive side, Jack Flor has a team high 68 tackles, while Grant Ross is second with 53 and leads the team in tackles for loss with 3.5 on the year.
BOWL ELIGIBLE
• The Black Knights have earned a bid into the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl after the victory against Temple.
• Army is playing in back-to-back bowl games for the first time since the 1984 and 1985 seasons.
• The Black Knights are the first team in FBS to accept a bowl bid in 2017.
• This is the second trip to the Armed Forces Bowl for the Black Knights as they defeated SMU back in 2010.
THE CIC TROPHY
• Saturday's game is a big one for the Black Knights and if Army comes up with a win, it will set up a date with Navy and the battle for the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy on Dec. 9.
• The Mids beat the Falcons earlier this year in an exciting 48-45 game in Annapolis.
• Army is looking for its first CIC Trophy since 1996.
WINNING FOOTBALL
• The Black Knights have had a tremendous stretch of games dating back to late last season.
• Army is now 9-2 over its last 11 games with the two losses coming against then-No. 8 Ohio State and a close defeat at Tulane.
• It is the best 11-game sequence since Army was 9-2 in 1996.
WEST POINT WORKHORSE
• Fullback Darnell Woolfolk made his return to the gridiron against Eastern Michigan after missing three games following the Ohio State contest.
• Woolfolk finished with a career high 132 yards and three touchdowns in the win over Temple on Oct. 21.
• With that number against the Owls, Woolfolk reached the 1,000 rushing mark in his career and did it in 16 games over the last two seasons.
• Woolfolk played in eight games as a rookie, but did not record any rushing yards.
• The Endwell, N.Y., native has scored at least one touchdown in all five games this season and has found the end zone 10 times in his last six games played.
