Coaches Comments
- Mike Smith - Director of Track and Field/Cross Country "We put together some strong performances this weekend. At this point in the season either you are ready or you are not and our guys showed that they are ready for the championship meets that are coming. We had personal bests, season bests, league leading marks, and several top ten all time army performances. Touchton moved up into the top ten all time in the 1000-meter run, Nick Beavers was better in the hurdles, Fong ran strong in the 3000-meter run, and Santana was really good in the 400-meter dash and 4x400 meter relay. But the reality is, Jose is good every weekend. He is one of our best competitors and has been for years. It's easy to take his performances for granted because he has been so good and so consistent that we just expect him to get the job done. We are witnessing one of the most versatile careers in program history. He is number two all time in the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash, third in the 400-meter dash and is a part of several of our best 4x400 meter relays. We also had some very good marks from our freshmen. They are quickly figuring things our and moving up high on the conference lists. The guys are coming together at the right time."
