Women’s Basketball Earns Road Win at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Aliyah Murray and sophomore Jess Lewis turned in career performances to help send the Army West Point women's basketball team to a 67-59 Patriot League win over Holy Cross on Wednesday evening at the Hart Center.
Army wins its third in a row to improve to 14-4 overall and 5-2 in the Patriot League, while Holy Cross falls to 4-14 and 2-5.
Lewis netted a career-high 22 points to lead all scorers, while making a career-best six three-pointers on 6-of-10 shooting from deep. Murray posted her second double-double of the season, and the third of her career, with 13 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.
Sophomore Madison Hovren tallied eight points and nine rebounds, while juniors Daizjah Morris and Destinee Morris each finished with eight points. Senior Dani Failor posted season highs of six points and five rebounds off the bench.
Infiniti Thomas-Waheed led Holy Cross with 19 points, while Lauren Manis notched a 15-point, 12-rebound double-double.

TURNING POINT
- Army led, 48-46, heading into the fourth quarter and scored the first seven points of the fourth to extend its lead to nine, 55-46, with 7:24 left in the game.
- Holy Cross managed to get its deficit back down to four, 61-57, with 2:17 to play, but didn't come any closer.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Holy Cross led, 7-5, early before Army scored nine unanswered points to start a 16-5 run that left the visitors with a 21-12 lead with 2:21 left in the first quarter.
- Lewis led the Black Knights with nine points during the run, including a 3-of-4 performance from beyond the arc.
- Army maintained its advantage and led, 25-18, after the opening period.
- The Crusaders scored the first six points to begin the second quarter before extending that spurt into a 15-5 run that gave them a 33-30 lead with 4:31 remaining until halftime.
- Lewis hit her fifth three of the game with 2:43 left in the half to bring the game back to a tie.
- Hovren netted two points for Army and Thomas-Waheed scored two for Holy Cross during the final 1:55 of the period to keep the contest tied, 35-35, heading into the break.
- Both teams traded baskets during the first 5:02 of the third quarter, as the scored stood at 41-41, until Hovren made a pair of free throws with 4:18 remaining to give Army a 43-41 advantage.
- Thomas-Waheed made a lay-in with 3:44 on the clock to force another deadlocked, this time at 43-43.
- The Cadets netted the next five points to give them a 48-43 lead with 1:31 to play in the third quarter and the Crusaders scored the final three points of the frame, as Army led, 48-46, after three.
- Army opened the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run, including five straight from Lewis, to boost the Black Knight advantage to nine, 55-46, with 7:24 remaining in the game.
- Holy Cross came back to make it a five-point game, 55-50, but the visitors netted the next four points to again move out to a nine-point lead, 59-50, with 5:19 left.
- The hosts got their deficit back down to four points, 61-57, with 2:17 left in the game, but did not come any closer the rest of the way.

- Army is back at Christl Arena on Saturday, Jan. 21 to face Navy for the first time in 2016-17. The game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network, with opening tip set for 11 a.m.
