WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's soccer team dropped the opening game of the Army West Point Fall Classic, falling to visiting UNC Greensboro, 3-1, on Friday evening at Clinton Field.
 
The Black Knights drop to 0-5 on the season, while the Spartans improve to 3-1-1.
 
Clare Shea scored her first goal of the season for Army to snap the Cadets' goalless streak to begin the year. Shea's tally came in the 12th minute to tie the game at 1-1.

- Jordan Cassalia finished with a season-high nine saves for the Black Knights.
- Cassalia made one of her best saves of the match with a leaping one-handed save on a shot by UNC Greensboro's Jess Logue.

- Lauren McGovern had a sliding shot from close range saved by Buehler in the 35th minute.
- Madison McGinn and Shea had threatening shots saved in the 40th and 42nd minutes, respectively.
- UNC Greensboro controlled possession for a 20-minute stretch of the second half to keep Army from any dangerous chances.
- Cassalia turned away a pair of hard shots that came off the foot of Cienna Rideout 10 seconds apart in the 76th minute.
- Kimberly Comstock entered the game in the 81st minute, replacing an injured Cassalia.
KEY MOMENTS
- UNC Greensboro keeper Chloe Buehler made three of her nine saves in the final 10 minutes of the first half, as Army looked for a chance to equalize.
- Buehler stopped threatening attempts from McGovern (35th minute), McGinn (40th minute) and Shea (42nd) to keep the Spartans ahead 2-1 heading into halftime.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rideout gave the visitors a 1-0 advantage after dribbling down the left side of the field for a goal just 5:16 into the match.
- Shea answered with a header goal from the far post after connecting on a left-swinging cross from Samantha Sullenger in the 12th minute. The goal was Army's first of the year.
- The Spartans regained the lead in the 20th minute, after Melanie Spensiero found the back of the net on the right side after receiving a pass from Regan Lehman.
- Caylin Prillaman doubled UNC Greensboro's lead in the 63rd minute, keeping with the ball after her initial shot was saved by Cassalia.
