CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Army West Point women's basketball team landed five players on the 2016 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, the league announced Wednesday. The Women's Basketball Academic Honor Roll includes 76 players from the 10-team conference.
Â
To be eligible for the Spring Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn at least a 3.20 GPA in the spring semester and participate in one of the Patriot League's winter or spring championship sports.
Â
Brianna Johnson led all Patriot League women's basketball players with a 4.070 GPA in the spring and was one of only five players across the league to achieve a GPA of 4.0 or higher. This year's Academic Honor Roll recognition is the fourth of her career and she is one of seven Patriot League women's basketball players to be honored all four seasons. A Life Science major, Johnson served as one of four team captains in 2015-16 and averaged 4.9 points in 27 games. She is set to attend medical school in the fall and will enter the Army's Medical Service Corps.
Â
Rising senior Alex Elzinga was named to the Academic Honor Roll for the second time in her career after first drawing the accolade as a junior. Elzinga completed the spring semester with a 3.234 GPA while majoring in Management. A native of Long Grove, Ill., she appeared in 19 games in 2015-16 and contributed points during wins over Emerson (12/19/15) and Loyola (1/9/16).
Â
A rising junior, Destinee Morris also qualified for the Academic Honor Roll for the second time with a 3.610 GPA in the spring as a Life Science major. Morris appeared in 28 games off the bench for the Black Knights in 2015-16, averaging 3.6 points per game and shooting 24-for-53 (.453 percent) from three-point range. She registered a career-best 11 points in back-to-back wins against Holy Cross (2/17/16) and Navy (2/20/16) before scoring eight points in Army's Patriot League Championship victory over Loyola on March 12.
Â
Daizjah Morris earned her first Academic Honor Roll recognition with a 3.283 GPA during the spring as an Engineering Management major. A rising junior from Lino Lakes, Minn., Morris played in 23 contests during her sophomore campaign, including five appearances in the starting lineup. She averaged 1.4 points per contest, including a season-best eight points in a come-from-behind victory at Yale on Dec. 3.
Â
Jess Lewis landed her first Academic Honor Roll praise by completing the spring semester of her freshman year with a 3.907 GPA. A Life Science major from Denver, Colo., Lewis battled injury early in the season, but came back to play in 19 games off the bench. She contributed points in five outings, including in Army's Patriot League Championship win over Loyola and the NCAA Tournament game at Syracuse on March 18.
Â
Army went 29-3 overall in 2015-16 to set a team record, and match a Patriot League record, for the most victories in a single season. The Cadets completed their fourth consecutive season with at least 20 wins and reached a national postseason tournament for the fourth year in a row to set program standards in each category. Army also set league records for highest three-point percentage (.410 / 230-for-561), lowest opponent scoring average (50.8) and widest victory margin (19.5), while its senior class became the winningest class in conference history with a four-year record of 99-28.
