JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Army West Point men's track and field team season came to an end at the NCAA East Preliminaries in Jacksonville, Fla., on Saturday evening. The 4x100 Meter Relay team and High Jumper Jeff Giannettino each competed.
Giannettino cleared 2.03 meters, the opening height, but could not advance after that. He finished tied for 32nd.
"Jeff had a nice clearance at opening height and then struggled after that," said Army Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mike Smith. "He had a great year for us and will only get better. He is such a positive young man and is a great competitor. His future is bright."
The 4x100 Meter Relay team of junior Jose Santana, freshmen Ben Sims and Kevin Dyer, and sophomore Tyler Davis did not finish after failing to complete the handoff in the last exchange zone.
"We were running very well up until the second exchange where we had some trouble," said Smith. "We got the stick but lost our momentum and that affected the last exchange where we were unable to get it in the zone. I know they are disappointed but they had a great year and they are young. I am proud of their effort and how they handled themselves."
