ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Army West Point women's tennis team saw its season come to an end on Saturday afternoon. The Black Knights lost to Navy in the Patriot League Semifinals 4-1. Army finishes its season with a record of 20-6. The Midshipmen will move on to play Boston University in the Patriot League Championship.
Freshman Kirby Einck scored the lone point for the Black Knights. After winning in the second doubles flight with senior Carolyn Pitman, Einck topped Sam Droop in the fourth singles flight in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4.
The Midshipmen clinched the match in the third singles slot. Claudia Mackenzie topped freshman Genevieve McCormick in the third set 3-6, 6-2, 6-0.
The doubles point went to Navy to begin the match. The top two doubles matches were split between the two schools and the pairing of Kristine Rojo and Carlee Conway for Navy took the win in the third doubles flight 6-4 over junior Nancy Porter and McCormick.
Pitman fought back in the second set of the top singles flight against Amanda Keller. The Black Knights senior staved off elimination for as long as she could in the second set, but ultimately lost 6-1, 6-4. For Pitman, it was her first career loss in singles or doubles against Navy.
For the graduating seniors of Pitman, Haley O'Connor, Gabriella Spindler, and Eva Sung, they finish their career 80 wins over the last four years, the eighth straight graduating class to reach that mark. Pitman finishes her career with 106 doubles win, the second-most in school history.
