Fong named to Patriot League All-Academic
December 08, 2016 | Men's Cross Country
West Point, N.Y. - Senior Jacob Fong of the Army West Point men's cross country team has been named to the Patriot League All-Academic team, announced by the organization on Wednesday.
Voting was conducted by the league's 10 cross country sports information contacts who could not vote for their own student-athletes.
The Saginaw, Mich., native is an International Relations and Chinese major at the academy and holds a 3.637 grade-point average. This year he helped the Black Knights earn second place at the Patriot League Championships, where he finished eighth (25:08.0) in a field of 106 runners. This is the highest Army has scored since 2008.
"It comes as no surprise that Jacob has been named to the Patriot League All-Academic team," comments Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Mike Smith. "His athletic resume this fall places him among the elite cross country runners in our league and is a reflection of his hard work and determination. His academic success and his character however, far surpass his accomplishments on the cross country course. He currently ranks 173 in his class and represents all that is expected of a cadet at the U.S. Military Academy. We are lucky to have had him as a member of our program."Â
