AMHERST, MASS. – The Army West Point men's swimming and diving team opened its season with a 188-110 win on the road at UMass.
I'm very pleased with our season opener," stated head coach Mickey Wender. "Our attitudes and effort level were tremendous; It was a very good opening day. I'm very happy with our senior leadership. They scored an enormous amount of points for us. It bodes well for an exciting season to come.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Army took first in the 200-yd medley relay as the team of Josh Sembrano, Joseph Daniels, Johnny Ellery and Evin Rude finished with a time of 1:32.72.
- Tom Ottman claimed the top spot in the 1000-yd freestyle with a mark of 9:39.48. Kevin Doo took second in the race, finishing in 9:46.02.
- Evin Rude and Devin McCall took first and second in the 200-yd freestyle with times of 1:41.56 and 1:42.74 respectively.
- In the 100-yd backstroke, Josh Sembrano won with a time of 50.59 seconds.
- Ty Dang barely edged out teammate Joe Daniels in the 100-yd breaststroke, taking the top spot with a mark of 57.40 seconds, compared to Daniels' 57.43 seconds.
