Nicole Heavirland Named USA Rugby All-American

BOULDER, Colo. – Making an immediate impact in her first semester of collegiate rugby, Nicole Heavirland has been named a USA Rugby All-American, as announced by the governing body.

Heavirland joined the Black Knights in the spring of 2015 and quickly became the team's biggest threat. As a plebe, she led the team with 107 points, recording 12 tries, 41 successful conversions and a penalty kick in 7s action.

She was named the MVP of the American Collegiate Rugby Association (ACRA) 7s Championships and the Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week after recording 33 points in four matches, including a try in the title game victory over rival Norwich.

Heavirland helped lead the Black Knights to a mark of 13-5, capturing the plate title in the USA Rugby 7s Tournament from Las Vegas and the ACRA 7s National Championship from Anderson Rugby Complex. Â

In addition to her collegiate experience, Heavirland spent the summer with the U.S. Women's National Team, earning playing time in three matches against some of the nation's toughest opponents.

Army West Point kicked off the 2015-16 season on Saturday with a 29-26 victory over conference foe American International on the road. They'll return home on Saturday, Sept. 12 as they host Quinnipiac at noon in the first game of a doubleheader with the men. Both games can be seen live on Knight Vision.
