Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Longwood

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. - After being no-hit in by Alex Robinett in game one of Saturday's doubleheader, Longwood salvaged a split with a 3-0 victory over the Army baseball team at Big Rock Stadium.
Travis Burnette and Mitchell Kuebbing combined to keep Army (3-2) off the scoreboard, while the Longwood offense scratched out seven hits to help the Lancers improve to 3-6 on the season. Burnette, backed by a first inning lead, pitched 7.1 scoreless innings and scattered six hits to earn the win. He struck out five Army hitters, walked three and plunked three others.
Army had runners reach base in every inning and Ryan Levenhagen had two singles to pace the Army offense. Rookie third baseman Jon Rosoff doubled in the ninth, before Keubbing got the final two outs and close the game.
"In the second game we were unable to get the big base hits," head coach Matt Reid said. "We had some great opportunities, but we just couldn't get the hits in those situations. We will get back after it tomorrow and have a chance to win the series."
Army right-hander Julian Larimer took the hard-luck loss after allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits in 7.0 innings of work. The senior struck out five and walked two and gave up one run in the first inning and two in the eighth.
C.J Roth led off the bottom of the first inning with a single to right field and advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt. A groundout moved Roth to third before Larimer punched out Kyri Washington for the second out of the inning. Brandon Delk's infield single allowed Roth to score and put Longwood in front.
Leading 1-0 going into the bottom of the eighth inning, Longwood added a pair of insurance runs that were charged to Larimer.
Kuebbing gave up one hit and walked one in 1.2 innings of relief of Burnette.
