It was an exciting Sunday at West Point with wrestling earning its first Star win over Navy and snapping a 17-match unbeaten streak against the Mids. Prior to the match, the men's basketball team topped American, while swimming and diving and indoor track competed at Patriot League Championships.
In front of over a 1,000 fans at Christl Arena, the wrestling team and first-year head coach Kevin Ward defeated Navy 21-10 to earn a Star. It was the first win over the Mids since the 1996-97 season. The team captains and firsties Chandler Smith and Hunter Wood, along with Ward showed great leadership during the match to help us prevail over the Mids.
The squads traded points until yearling David Farr broke a late tie in the heavyweight match and prevailed for a 3-2 victory to extend our lead to 12-6 and marked the first back-to-back wins for either team in the match. Plebe Sean Badua registered a 6-2 decision at 125 pounds to build our lead to 15-6 before Navy cut the lead to 15-10. Yearling Logan Everett came from behind to best Navy's Patrick Prada, 5-2, in the 141 bout to put us up 18-10 and clinch the win. In the final match of the evening, cow Javier Rodriguez posted a 9-4 decision at 149 to make the final score 21-10.
The men's basketball team used a 20-2 run surrounding halftime and rode cow Kevin Ferguson's career-high 23 points to a 72-63 victory over American on Sunday afternoon at Christl Arena. The Senior Day win helped us complete the season sweep of American. Ferguson also led Army with a career-best 12 rebounds for his fourth-career double-double as Army held a 35-27 rebounding advantage. The cow class also had Kyle Wilson score 17, Tanner Plomb pour in 15 and Dylan Cox finished with nine points for us. We reached 15 victories for the third consecutive year, marking the first time the Black Knights have had three straight 15-win campaigns since Bob Knight's teams each won at least 15 from 1967-70.
The men's swimming and diving team finished second at Patriot League Championships with a total of 642 points as we were led by cow Chris Szeleky. He set three Academy records over the three days at Bucknell and won individual titles in the 100 and 50 freestyle. The women's team finished their weekend in fifth with a total of 416 points. On the track, our men's squad ended up fifth with firstie Clyde Wilson leading the way with an individual win in the 800m run, which was his fifth straight victory in the event, dating back to his sophomore season. He bested his own Patriot League Championship meet record at 1:50.70. The time ranks fourth all-time on the Academy's list and it shattered the Brown Field House record as well. The women's team concluded the indoor season with a sixth-place finish at the league championships.
The women's basketball team's 11-game winning streak came to an end at American on Saturday as we dropped a 45-42 decision against the league leaders. We sit second in the league with two home games to go in the regular season. Men's lacrosse went up to Syracuse and battled the Orange for four quarters, but the No. 2/3 team in the nation came away with the 12-9 win. We are 3-1 entering league play this weekend and moved up to ninth in the country in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Coaches' Poll. We have a busy week of athletics at West Point with women's basketball hosting Boston University on Wednesday night.
The men's lacrosse team opens its league slate against Lafayatte at 12 p.m. on Saturday, while women's basketball follows at 3 p.m. against the Leopards as well. The day wraps up with Senior Night at Tate Rink as hockey welcomes AIC.

- The Black Knights swept the season series against American and still have the potential to host a quarterfinal round game in the Patriot League tournament with two games remaining.
- Army reached 15 wins for the third consecutive season, marking the first stretch of three straight 15-win campaigns since Bob Knight's teams won at least 15 from 1967-70.
- The final two games are on the road at Boston University at 7 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a matchup at Lafayette on Saturday at 12 p.m.

- Army went 1-1 last week after defeating Colgate, 48-47, on Wednesday and falling to first-place American, 45-42, on Saturday.
- The Black Knights racked up their 20th win of the season after beating Colgate to reach the 20-win plateau for the third season in a row to mark the first time in program history Army has posted three straight 20-win seasons.
- Cow guard Kelsey Minato led Army with game highs of 18 points and 19 points against Colgate and American, respectively. Minato also finished the week with 203 career three-pointers to move into first on Army's career three-point list, passing Jen Hansen's (USMA '07) mark of 202.
- Army has locked up a top-two seed in the Patriot League Tournament and will return home for its final two contests of the regular season, beginning with a game against Boston University on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m.
Hockey (7-19-4, 7-15-4 Atlantic Hockey)
- Army sealed up the ninth seed in the upcoming Atlantic Hockey Tournament and will travel to Sacred Heart on the weekend of March 6-8 for a best-of-three series.
- The Black Knights remained unbeaten in their last three Friday nights with a 1-1 tie against Bentley.
- Army is 3-3-2 over it last eight games after settling for another draw on Saturday night opposite the Falcons with a 2-2 deadlock.
- Saturday night is Senior Night at Tate Rink as the Black Knights finish the regular season with a 7:05 p.m. faceoff against AIC.
Gymnastics (1-3)
- Cow Jesse Glenn represented the Black Knights at the Winter Cup Challenge, joining 85 of the nation's top gymnasts in Las Vegas.
- He posted an all-around score of 77.250 to finish 41st in the preliminary round and his high bar mark of 14.100 earned him 14th place.
- The team will host Springfield and William & Mary in a tri-meet from Gross Sports Center on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m.
Men's Swimming and Diving (10-3, 6-1 Patriot League)
- The Army men's swimming and diving team finished runner-up at the Patriot League Championships last weekend.
- Cow Chris Szekely was named the AAA Co-Athlete of the Week this week after his dominating performance in the pool. He won both sprint events and broke one Academy record and had a hand in three relay teams that set new Academy standards.
- He was the top individual point's earner at the meet with 56.
- Plebe Josh Sembrano broke two Academy and two plebe records in the meet. He now tops the All-Time Top 10 list in the 100 and 200 back.
Women's Swimming and Diving (8-4, 4-2 Patriot League)
- The Army women's swimming and diving team finished fifth at the Patriot League Championships last weekend.
- Yearling Jess Burkett had a career-best swim in the 400 IM as she topped her previously set Academy record.
- The 200 free relay team comprised of yearling Kelly Hamilton, cow Molly Mucciarone, firstie Haileigh Phillips and first Keeli McNeary finished second to set an Academy record.
- Army broke one individual and one team Academy record and had 22 career-best performances.
Men's Track
- The men's track and field team placed fourth at the Patriot League Championships, earning a total of 104 points.
- Firstie Clyde Wilson earned his fifth consecutive 800m run title with a Patriot League Championship meet record of 1:50.70.
- The 4x400m relay team also captured a first place victory with an IC4A qualifying time of 3:15.41.
- The men will resume action March 6-8 at the ECAC/IC4A Championships from Boston, Mass.
Women's Track
- The women's track team placed sixth at the Patriot League Championships, earning a total of 94 points.
- Cow Ashley Zeitvogel earned the pole vault title, her second straight, posting a leap of 3.75m to tie the field house record.
- Cow Amy Slaughter claimed the weight throw title with an ECAC qualifying mark of 16.69m. \
- The women will resume action March 6-8 at the ECAC/IC4A Championships from Boston, Mass.
Rifle (7-6, 5-3 GARC)
- No. 12 Army closed out the season on a winning note defeating the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, 4630-4109, in its NCAA Qualifier.
- The win was the third straight as Army registered its fourth straight winning campaign.
- Plebe Michael Garner was medalist in smallbore with a career-high 578.
- Cow Danielle Cuomo took top honors in air rifle with a 586, two shy of her career mark.
- Army swept both disciplines outpointing USP 2291-2028 in smallbore and 2339-2081 in air rifle.
- The Black Knights head to the Great America Rifle Conference Championships this weekend hosted by Ole Miss.
Women's Tennis (6-7, 0-0 Patriot League)
- The Army women's tennis team went 2-1 over the weekend to improve its record to 6-7 overall.
- The Black Knights defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, 4-3, and St. Bonaventure, 5-2, while dropping a 7-0 match to Cornell.
- Plebe Hannah Dahlem earned Army points against FDU and the Bonnies from third singles.
- Yearling Allyson Hayley also had two victories for the Black Knights, from the No. 5 position on both occasions.
