Holder Claims Senior CLASS Award First Team Honor
December 03, 2015 | Women's Soccer
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Katie Holder, a member of the Army West Point women's soccer team, was one of four players named to the 2015 Senior CLASS Award First Team in collegiate soccer. Rutgers' Brianne Reed was chosen as the winner of the 2015 Senior Class Award.
The award, chosen by a vote of Division I women's soccer coaches, national soccer media and fans, is given annually to the most outstanding senior student-athlete in Division I women's soccer. In order to be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: classroom, community, character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete in 10 NCAA sports and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Holder, who was the lone women's representative from the Patriot League and one of ten players named as finalists for the honor, was a first team all-conference selection and led Army in scoring with five goals and four assists in 2015. Last year, Holder was a First Team All-Patriot League pick after leading the team with six goals and 12 points. Holder ended her four-year career with 16 goals and eight assists and is tied for seventh in program history with nine career game-winning goals.
Holder was selected as a 2015 team co-captain and, over the summer, she served as Queen of Beast during cadet basic training, also known as "Beast Barracks." In her position, Holder commanded the cadet cadre in charge of the new cadets during the first phase of summer training. Holder currently holds the 3rd Regimental Commander position as part of the Cadet Chain of Command for the 2015-16 academic year.
The Stillwater, Minn., native, who has experience as a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, comes from a military family where both parents, Rob and Ann Holder, are 1989 USMA graduates. Her brother, Will, graduated from the Academy in 2013.
Holder has also excelled in the classroom as a Mechanical Engineering major with a 3.581 cumulative grade-point average. Holder has earned a number of academic honors, including being named to the 2014 and 2015 Academic All-Patriot League teams, the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District 1 Team. She is a two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection.
