WEST POINT, N.Y. – Following a pair of impressive performances over the weekend, junior Parker Gahagen and sophomore Nicole Heavirland have each earned Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week recognition. Â
Â
Gahagen stopped 23 shots to earn his second career shutout and first of the season against Connecticut on Nov. 10. He stopped 10 in the first period and helped Army secure a 2-0 win for its first victory of the season.
Â
The Buffalo, N.Y., native has appeared in five games between the pipes for Army and is coming up on his 50th career appearance. He has a 2.90 goals against average this season, which is among the top netminders in Atlantic Hockey.
Â
Gahagen and Army welcome Robert Morris for two games this weekend at Tate Rink. Both games are set for a 7:05 p.m. start and tickets are still available. Fans can purchase tickets by calling 1-877-TIX-ARMY, online at GoArmyWestPoint.com or in person at Gate 3 of Michie Stadium. The Ticket Office at Holleder Center is open one hour prior to game time.Â
Â
Heavirland paced the women's rugby offense over the weekend, recording five tries, 11 conversions and one penalty kick in the pair of wins. Her offensive output accounted for 42 percent of the Black Knights' scoring on the weekend.
Â
On the season, Heavirland has dotted down 13 times this season, tops amongst the Army squad. Serving as both fly half and kicker, she's also added 32 conversions and two penalty kicks in eight games.
Â
This is the second Athlete of the Week honor for Heavirland this season. She first earned the distinction on Sept. 14 following a four-try performance in the win over eventual conference champion Quinnipiac.
Â
The women's rugby squad will hit the road this weekend, traveling to Providence, RI, for the semifinal round of the National Collegiate Women's Varsity Rugby Association (NCWVRA) tournament. Army will match up with AIC at 11 a.m., vying for a spot in the title game. A win would propel the Black Knights into the championship where they would face the winner of the Quinnipiac vs. Norwich contest.
