Rifle Team Fourth Following SB At GARC Championships

OXFORD, Miss. - Army's rifle team edged Memphis for fourth place, 2299-2297, and sits nine points behind third-place after wrapping up smallbore competition the first day of the Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships at host Mississippi's Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center.
Defending champion and No. 1-ranked West Virginia is in first place after firing a 2337 in outpointing runner-up Nebraska (2314) by 23 points. Kentucky sits third with 2308 points, nine above fourth-place Army (2299).
Memphis (2297), Navy (2291), North Carolina State (2285), Akron (2285) and host Ole Miss (2275) round out the rest of the nine-team field.
Senior Michael Matthews led the Black Knights with a 577, trailing the top mark of 587 recorded by West Virginia's Garrett Spurgeon and Jean-Pierre Lucas in tying for 14th place among a field of 64 shooters.
Senior captain Joseph Todaro was a point behind his classmate posting a 576 with sophomore Alyssa Gestl and freshman Allen Solida rounding out Army's counters with 573s.
