WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army women’s tennis team came out of its first weekend of dual match play with a 3-0 record after downing Seton Hall, 5-1, on Saturday morning at Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The victory comes on the heels of wins over Binghamton (5-2) and Sacred Heart (5-2) on Friday.
Coming off nine hours of singles and doubles competition on Friday, Army and Seton Hall battled for well over four hours on Saturday. Only one of six singles matches went into three sets, featuring senior Elle Taylor’s 18-16 third set victory in the fifth flight versus Seton Hall’s Madison Shoemaker.
Senior co-captain Jamila Paul and doubles-partner sophomore Carolyn Pitman managed to stay untouched for the third straight match of doubles play, claiming a 6-2 victory over Seton Hall’s Shoemaker and Hannah Liljekvist. Despite the Black Knight’s efforts, Seton Hall won the final two doubles matches to claim a one point lead heading into singles play.
Army’s winning points, derived from its five singles match victories from Paul, Pitman, Della and Elle Taylor and Ally Hayley.
The Black Knights look to stay perfect as they host Stony Brook, Connecticut and Fordham at Lichtenberg Tennis Center next weekend.
