Minato's 24 Points Lead Army Past Manhattan

The Black Knights were successful on 56.4 percent (31-for-55) of their shots in the game, including knocking in 72.0 percent (18-of-25) during the second half. Army's 56.4 percent shooting day marks the team's best showing of the season and its highest percentage since making 61.7 percent against Yale on Dec. 7, 2013.
Minato netted game highs of 24 points and seven rebounds while hitting 9-of-12 from the field and 5-of-6 from three-point range. Oertner recorded a career-best 19 points on a perfect 7-of-7 field goal performance and added five boards.
Manhattan led early after hitting four of its first seven shots to jump out to a 9-2 lead after the game's opening 4:06, but the Black Knights responded with a 22-8 run over the ensuing 12:47 to go up 24-17. Minato knocked in a pair of triples and tallied eight points during the stretch, while senior Olivia Schretzman hit all three of her field goal attempts to net six of her seven points on the afternoon.
Freshman Jahla Osborne scored all four of her points in the game during the final 3:06 of the first half, while Army also received baskets from Minato and sophomore Dani Failor in the last minutes of the frame to take a 30-21 advantage into the halftime break.
Oertner made a lay-up 15 seconds into the second half to give Army an 11-point lead before single-handedly maintaining her team's sizeable advantage by netting 12 straight points over the next 3:01. The junior went 5-of-5 from the field and 2-of-3 from the free-throw stripe during the early goings of the half, while Manhattan freshman Nyasha Irizarry scored eight points in a row for the hosts to keep their deficit at 13. Irizarry totaled a team-high 13 points for the Jaspers.
Army hit its next five shots, including three-pointers from Minato and junior Jean Parker, to extend its lead to 20 before scoring 26 of the game's final 45 points during the last 10:36.
The Black Knights are back on the hardwood on Tuesday, Nov. 25 to take on service-academy rival Air Force at 5 p.m.
