Rifle Defeats GARC Rival Ole Miss, 4615-4561

WEST POINT, N.Y. - - Army's rifle team swept medalist honors in both disciplines defeating Great America Rifle Conference rival Ole Miss , 4615-4561, Friday afternoon at Tronsrue Marksmanship Center to level its season mark at 4-4.
Freshman Josh Martin and sophomore Allen Solida tied for medalist honors in smallbore posting identical 570s with junior captain Alyssa Gestl grabbing first-place honors in air rifle with a 590 to tie her career high.
Joining Martin and Solida on Army's four-man smallbore unit were Gestl and sophomore Marvin Lewis who finished a point behind medalist with 569s tying for third place honors as the Black Knights posted a 2278 in outpointing the Rebels who posted a 2240.
It is the second time this season that Gestl earned medalist honors in air rifle having shared it in Army's GARC win over North Carolina State last month with a 588. Junior Olivia Nardone fired a 587 competing individually in sharing runner-up honors with Marvin Lewis in that discipline.
Also competing on Army's scoring air rifle unit that included Gestl and Lewis were Danielle Cuomo firing a 581 along with Solida and Martin scoring 579s as the Black Knights combined for a team score of 2337 besting the Rebels by 16 points. Army's team mark in that discipline is just three points off its season high 2340 set last month in a triangular sweep of Memphis and MIT.
The Black Knights, 3-2 in the GARC, close out their fall slate Sunday when they host defending NCAA and GARC champion West Virginia, currently ranked No. 1 in the country, 9 a.m. at Tronsrue Marksmanship Center.
