Army Drops 34-31 Heartbreaker at American International

SPRINGFIELD, MA - A stoppage time try ended a late Army comeback and propelled conference rival American International College to a 34-31 victory over the Black Knights under the lights from Springfield, Mass.
Army scored 17 unanswered points in the second half to regain the lead before the Yellow Jackets ended the game by scoring a try in stoppage time. Kate Roose scored three tries in a span of 22 minutes in a last ditch effort for the Black Knights.
The Black Knights got on the board first, with Lindy Clark scoring a try in the third minute. Carissa Pekny was successful on the conversion and Army took the early 7-0 advantage. American International would tie the game up in the 11th minute, but Chioma Odocha put the game back in the Black Knights' favor with a try in the 17th minute. Pekny's conversion put Army up 14-7.
American International would close out the first half with back-to-back tries to take the 17-14 advantage into the break.
In the second half, the Yellow Jackets picked up right where they left at, adding to their lead just two minutes in and again in the 45th minute.
With the game slipping away from the Black Knights, Roose put on a show scoring three straight tries and putting Army up 31-29 at the end of regulation.
The Yellow Jackets were able to score in stoppage time to walk away with their second victory over the Black Knights in the 2014 season.
With the loss, Army falls to 3-5 on the season. They'll conclude the 2014 regular season with a Halloween matchup from Anderson Rugby Complex against service academy rival Air Force.
