Woods and Bullard Earn Patriot League Honors

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Junior diver Zach Woods and freshman swimmer Ariana Bullard were recognized by the Patriot League on Tuesday, Jan. 14, following their impressive performances in their final home slate of competition versus Lehigh and Bucknell over the weekend. The Army men finished with a sweep on the weekend, defeating Lehigh, 196-97, and Bucknell, 195-105, while the Black Knight women picked up a win over Lehigh in a 181-113 decision, before falling to Bucknell, 142.5-157.5.
Woods, who swept both boards versus Lehigh and Bucknell over the weekend, was tabbed Patriot League male diver of the week, hitting NCAA qualifying standards in all four events.
The Collierville, Tenn. Native took gold off both boards on Friday versus Lehigh scoring 322.20 points off the 1-meter board and 337.65 points off the 3-meter board. Woods then continued to impress at Crandall Pool while he topped all divers off both boards the next day versus Bucknell. The junior diver snagged the first place spot off the 1-meter board with a score of 316.05 and 332.58 off the 3-meter board.
On the women’s side, Bullard continued to dominate in the pool, winning a total of six events on the weekend which earned her Patriot League’s Female Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season. The freshman swimmer won the 200 fly, 100 fly and 200 IM against both Lehigh and Bucknell. Bullard swam for a time of 2:05.15 in the 200 fly, clocked in at 56.69 in the 100 fly and touched the wall at 2:09.32 in the 200 IM in the 181-113 victory against the Mountain Hawks on Friday. The Carmel, Ind., native then swam times of 2:04.63 in the 200 fly, 57.11 in the 100 fly and 2:08.25 in the 200 IM in a 157.5-142.5 loss to Bucknell on Saturday. She was also part of the first-place 400 medley relay team against Lehigh and winning 200 medley relay team against Bucknell.
Junior Chris Szekely also earned honorable mention in the weekly award after winning six events over the weekend sweeping the 50, 100 and 200 free against Lehigh before claiming the 50 and 100 free versus Bucknell.
The Black Knights return to action when they travel to Fairfax, Va., this weekend where they will go up against George Mason and Patriot League competitors American and Boston University. The first events are slated to begin at 1 p.m.
