WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army men’s tennis wrapped up its three-match weekend with a 7-0 setback to Yale on Sunday at Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The Black Knights went 1-2 on the weekend, defeating St. Bonaventure but falling to the Bulldogs and Binghamton.
Army (10-9) took one of three doubles matches against Yale (11-5), as freshman duo Peter Sienko and Alex Van Velzer defeated Erik Blumenkranz and Joel Samaha, 8-5, at No. 2. The pair improved to 5-4 on the year with the win.
The Bulldogs swept all six singles matches, including three in straight sets. Juniors Alex Holland Rashad Shelton forced both of their respective matches into three sets after losing the first set and winning the second, only to drop the third and decisive set.
Army dropped to 11-63 all-time against Yale in the one of the oldest and most-played series in program history.
The Black Knights also concluded their match against St. Bonaventure, playing the doubles matches prior to the Yale contest. Army tied up its win against the Bonnies, 5-2, after winning two-of-three doubles matches.
Following this weekend’s nonconference tripleheader, Army will return to Patriot League play next Sunday with a 1 p.m., contest against Colgate at Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
