BOSTON, Mass. - Army men's tennis had its three-match winning streak snapped on Saturday, falling 5-2 at Boston University. The Black Knights fall to 9-10 on the season while the Terriers improved to 8-8.
BU pulled ahead 1-0 after winning the doubles point by taking two-of-three contests. Army's lone doubles win came at the No. 1 spot as senior Tripp Johnson and junior Donald Van Velzer defeated Josh Friedman and Michael Kopelman, 8-5. The win marked the 14th doubles victory of the season for Johnson, ranking second on the team.
Johnson went on to provide the Black Knights with a point in singles play, winning in the No. 4 match. The senior defeated Jarred Pendleton, 6-1, 7-6(2), for his 11th win of the spring and 13th of the season. It was the Hickory, N.C., native's eighth win in the last nine matches.
Sophomore Gary Kushnirovic improved his season record to 5-1 by defeating Jesse Frieder, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6(4), at No. 2 singles.
Freshman Henry Jang-Milsten had his three-match singles win streak halted as Regis Chang defeated the Army plebe, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 6.
Sophomore Alex Holland entered Saturday with the hot hand - winning six of his last seven singles contests. Holland was cooled off a bit by Ferdinand Brunet, falling to the Terrier, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5 singles.
Army will look to maintain its flawless mark in Patriot League play on Monday. The Black Knights will travel to Lewisburg, Pa., to face rival Bucknell for a 1 p.m. contest.
