Men's Tennis Defeated 6-1 at Yale
February 07, 2011 | Men's Tennis
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Men's tennis traveled to New Haven, Conn., on Sunday to face Yale. Matched with some of the top players in the Northeast region, the Black Knights fell 6-1. Army falls to 1-2 on the spring season, while the win marked Yale's first of 2011 (1-2).
Army freshman Asika Isoh faced a familiar foe in Yale's Marc Powers at No. 1 singles. The two faced off at the Army Invitational on Oct. 10 at West Point, with Powers earning a 7-5, 6-2 win in Isoh's eighth match as a collegiate athlete. Isoh would earn his revenge the second time around, defeating the fourth-ranked singles player of the Northeast region on Sunday, 7-6, 6-4.
Senior Tripp Johnson faced his third Bulldog of the year after previously falling to Daniel Hoffman and Jordan Abergel at the Army Open. This time around, Johnson faced John Huang who is ranked eighth in the Northeast. Johnson's winless streak against the Bulldogs continued, as Huang prevailed 6-4, 6-3.
Freshman Henry Jang-Milsten also faced the challenge of a regionally-ranked opponent, as Yale's Daniel Hoffman entered Sunday's match at No. 5 in the Northeast. Meeting for the first time this season, Hoffman defeated Jang-Milsten, 6-1, 6-2.
The Black Knights narrowly missed out on the doubles point, winning at No. 3 but losing a tight contest at No. 1.
Making his premiere in the dual match season, junior Andrew Clark paired with sophomore Alex Holland at No. 3. The duo defeated Erik Blumenkranz and Jordan Abergel, 9-7. Holland improved to 2-0 against Yale's double teams in 2010-11.
Sophomore Rashad Shelton teamed with Tripp Johnson at No. 1, facing Daniel Hoffman and Marc Powers. The Bulldogs won by the narrowest of margins, 9-8.
Yale improved to 62-11 all-time against Army. The Bulldogs have won the last six contests against the Black Knights, as Army's last win against Yale was Feb. 12, 2005, 4-3, at Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
Sunday's match marked the Black Knight's only contest of the weekend after Saturday's scheduled match against Penn was cancelled due to weather.
Army returns to the Lichtenberg Tennis Center on Friday, Feb. 11 when it hosts Stony Brook at 5 p.m.
