Thursday, Sept. 23 - A Little Bit Of Everything
September 23, 2010 | General
Happy Thursday one and all. Tracy Nelson with you on this gorgeous late-morning. The sun is shining and temperatures are rising here in the Hudson Valley. We have all the makings for a great weekend ahead ...
Brian did a great job yesterday talking about the Army-Duke football battle on Saturday. Click here to check out his blog, which also features a lot of pretty insightful links to what's going on down in Blue Devil land recently. It's no secret that I'm an avid Duke fan, but only when it comes to basketball season. GO ARMY, BEAT DUKE on Saturday - that's for sure!
I haven't had a chance to blog since this past weekend's volleyball extravaganza, so let me fill you in now. Head coach Alma Kovaci and the Black Knights rallied to win their own West Point Challenge with a thrilling 3-2 win over Hofstra on Sunday! It was a great end to a very, very long weekend. Sunday's action featured four matches that got pushed to five sets, so by the time Sunday at 11 p.m. arrived, I was saying stats in my head all night long. At least the girls pulled it off and won! Otherwise, I could have been a very unhappy camper. The Black Knights move on to open Patriot League play this weekend, hosting Lehigh Friday night at 7 p.m. and Lafayette on Saturday at 3 p.m. Friday night's match will be available on ITT Knight Vision. Both matches will be played at Gillis Field House. Come out as Army starts its defense of the Patriot League crown!
While last weekend's volleyball match officially began the Army-Air Force series (Army won, 3-0), the 2010-11 Army-Navy series gets underway with a pair of competitions this weekend. The Army golf team will host the Mids all weekend in a Ryder Cup-style format, while men's soccer takes on Navy on Saturday at 7 p.m. as head coach Russell Payne gets its first taste of the service academy rivalry at Clinton Field.
This weekend also marks one of the biggest weekends of the fall for the Army women's tennis team. Head coach Paul Peck and his team are set to host the 2010 Eastern Championships at West Point. According to the last list I received from coach Peck, 26 teams will send players to compete this weekend. Peck and his tournament manager, Stan Campbell, do a great job in getting a ton of play out of the tournament. If you're around the Hudson Valley area, the tournament will take place at both indoor and outdoor courts all weekend long.
Before signing off, if you haven't had a chance to check out football captain Steve Anderson's blog, click here to read the latest. Short, sweet and to-the-point. He does, however, provide some great insight into the preparation and motivation the team goes through each week.
That will do it for day. It's noon and my tummy is growling.
GO ARMY! BEAT EVERYONE!
