Col. Sam Johnson Named Interim Director of Athletics

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Lt. Gen. David H. Huntoon, Jr., Superintendent of the United States Military Academy at West Point, announced Wednesday that Colonel Sam Johnson will serve as the academy's interim Director of Athletics effective October 1.

The athletic department's chief of staff since September 2008, Johnson will follow Kevin Anderson and assume day-to-day leadership.  The United States Military Academy is assembling a national search committee to conduct a thorough and comprehensive review for the best-qualified candidates for this key position in Army athletics.

"I want to thank Kevin and his family for all he has done for West Point and our cadet-athletes.  He has advanced our program greatly in all facets, while serving as an exceptional role model for our young men and women," said Huntoon.

Anderson will depart West Point September 30 to become the Director of Athletics at the University of Maryland.
