Black Knight Blog - Tuesday, Aug. 31

Well folks, game week has officially arrived! Tracy Nelson joining for today's blog. Sorry for it being a bit tardy, but as I mentioned, game week is here as football gets underway on Saturday at Eastern Michigan. Things are a bit crazy around these parts as we're all trying to get back into the groove of things. I must admit that I'm pretty happy for the opener being away. It gives everyone one more week to really get things situated before Hawai'i comes to Michie Stadium on Sept. 11.
Keep an eye out on Saturday for the weekly "How To Follow" release on the game, which is an EXTREMELY helpful tool in finding games week in and week out. It will list television, radio, blogs, etc. The boss man Bob Beretta somehow frees up enough time in his busy schedule to do these weekly Tip Sheets, which are also very helpful.
This week's opener is not televised, but it' the perfect chance for you to tune into the Army Sports Network for the radio call. This year, Rich DeMarco will take over play-by-play duties, so be sure and tune in to his debut on Saturday. There will also be a "viewing party" here at Michie Stadium for those folks that may be local. The feed will be shown on the big screen at Michie for any fans that want to come out for FREE and enjoy what will be a great time. If this week's weather is any indication, there will be no need to bring the blankets!
This afternoon was our first weekly press conference with head coach Rich Ellerson at Randall Hall. As always, coach was as animated as ever in describing his feelings about Saturday's game and the season as a whole. Click here for a full transcription of the presser (and you can thank our very own Pam Flenke for her typing efforts - she will be paralyzed for two days now after nearly 4,000 words worth of keystrokes). Keep an eye out on ITT Knight Vision later today as well for a multimedia recap of the conference. If anything, coach Ellerson harped pretty heavily on the bonus of having an experienced football team this year. There's experience at every position, which is something that was just not true last season. Guys were still learning their jobs in a new system, which left them susceptible to miscues now and again. Coach Ellerson was much more eloquent than me in talking about this, so I'll just leave it to him - the expert.
That's about all for now. I don't know where the time has gone this summer. Before I know it, I'll be blogging about basketball season. Phew! Speaking of hoops season, women's basketball coach Dave Magarity will officially announce his freshman class tomorrow, so stay tuned ...
Until next time, GO ARMY!
