Happy Game Week, everyone! Brian Gunning on the keyboard this afternoon in what promises to be the first of a hot week here in the Hudson Valley.
As you can tell by my greeting, things are getting rollling around here. Summer went quickly, and now it's time to get back to competition. If you read Mady's blog from last week, you'll know it's been an interesting summer for me. I got married in July, and after what seemed like an endless period of planning, things have just flown by since then. Since I got back from my honeymoon (which my wife and I decided we need to do more often) it's been pretty much all football all the time trying to get the media guide, game program and all the other things that need to be ready for this week done.
All that stuff is pretty much completed, and today officially begins the Army football team's game-week preparations for the season opener at Eastern Michigan on Saturday. I can guarantee you that a lot of people have been eagerly anticipating this week since the clock hit 00:00 in Philadelphia last December.
From watching practice these last few weeks, I can assure you the coaches and players are ready to roll. Everyone is much more comfortable and confident in their second year under head coach Rich Ellerson. Practices are run at an efficient pace and you can certainly tell which guys have been through the paces before. With all that experience, even the younger players are having a better time getting through everything. There are a lot more players around to help out rather than relying on a coach to have to correct them.
The first game week for me means the first set of football notes. You can check out all the information you need to know about this week's match up right here.
The first football game also means a few other firsts this week. The 2010 debut of "This Week in Army Football" with Rich DeMarco and head coach Rich Ellerson will take place this Thursday at 7 p.m. at West Point's First Class Club. If you can't make it to West Point for the show, you can listen and watch from anywhere in the world live on-line with a subscription to ITT Knight Vision. The show is broadcast live in the Hudson Valley on WALL 1340-AM out of Middletown, N.Y., and WEOK 1390-AM out of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
You can also come out for the first Spirit Rally Luncheon on Thursday. It is one of three that will be held at Eisenhower Hall here at West Point this season. The doors for the buffet lunch open at 11:30 a.m. and the program gets underway at 12:30 p.m. For tickets, call (845) 938-4456.
That'll do it for me today. I'm headed up to check out this afternoon's football practice and hammer out a couple of other season-starting projects that need to get done.
Have a gready day everyone. Stay cool, and GO ARMY!
