Good morning all and welcome to the second installment of the Black Knight Blog. Tracy Nelson with you again today as we're still working out a few kinks on the new site. There was a bit of a hiccup in posting yesterday's blog, but it's there now so be sure to check it out if you haven't already! That will explain more about the website redesign and all that good stuff.
The plan is to resume our regular blog rotation tomorrow with Mady Salvani on deck. As per usual, we'll do these blogs daily as long as time permits! It's an understatement to say that things have gotten pretty crazy around here with a lot of moving parts getting ready for the fall seasons to begin.
Speaking of fall seasons beginning, I figured I would take some time to today to talk volleyball. My fall sport assignment, head coach Alma Kovaci and her troops came through for me last year and led me to my first NCAA Tournament experience! It was quite a ride and one that I hope they continue on to start this year.
With nearly every vital hitter returning, including Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Year Ariana Mankus, the offense will remain intact this fall. The big loss coming at the setter position with the graduation of three-time Patriot League Setter of the Year Maureen Bannon. Senior Karyn Powell played behind Bannon for three seasons and is poised to step into the starting role for this weekend's Army Invitational at Gillis Field House. Powell will serve as co-captain along with junior Rachel Willis for the 2010 campaign.
The Black Knights are in action beginning on Friday at noon against Fairleigh Dickinson. Army will play four matches spanning Friday and Saturday, while a total of nine matches will make up the tournament. Click here for a complete schedule. As usual, volleyball matches are free and probably one of the most entertaining sports West Point has to offer. Come on down and support! I promise, you won't be disappointed.
Unfortunately, I have to cut today's blog a bit short as my "To Do" list isn't exactly doing itself. It's actually growing rapidly ... boooooo. I hope you all will tune in for tomorrow's Mady update. She's excited for her turn and will come out with guns blazing for Blog #1 of the year!
